Boutique Film Lab is a small lab in Nashville that develops, scans, and prints film for photographers all over the country — C-41, black & white, E-6, and ECN-2, in everything from 35mm and 120 to 110 and 4×5. We handle thousands of one-of-a-kind images every week, and we’re hiring a lab technician to help us keep up.

What the job actually is

Most of the day is careful, hands-on production work:

• Checking in mail orders and matching every roll to the right order
• Developing film (we’ll train you — no darkroom experience required)
• Scanning on our Noritsu and Fuji Frontier scanners
• Color-correcting and quality-checking scans with our in-house editing software
• Cutting, sleeving, and packaging negatives for shipping and pickup
• Making prints, mixing chemistry, and keeping stations clean and stocked

It’s repetitive the way good craft is repetitive: the same steps, done exactly right, all day. The rolls in your hands are someone’s wedding, their kid’s first year, a trip they saved up for. There are no do-overs in this business, and we treat every roll that way.

Who does well here

• You’re naturally careful with things that can’t be replaced.
• You stay consistent on repetitive work instead of drifting after lunch.
• You notice small things — a speck of dust, a frame that’s slightly off.
• You’re comfortable on your feet and good with your hands.
• Photography or film experience is a genuine plus, but not required. We can teach you film; we can’t teach you carefulness.

Pay, schedule, place

• Pay: $18+/hour, depending on experience
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10 AM–6 PM preferred
• Where: 569 Stewarts Ferry Pike, Nashville, TN 37214 — fully on-site (the film is here)
